đ Send this article to someone planning a trip to Paris over the holidays!

Paris in December is like stepping into a living fairy tale: the streets light up, the shop windows transform and the air fills with a gentle effervescence. In this mini guide, I give you practical advice, ideas for activities and a little personal experience to get you ready for an unforgettable Parisian Christmas.
𧣠Dressing for winter
First, pack layers: a warm sweater, an insulating coat, a scarf and gloves. Next, choose comfortable shoes for walking – Paris is best discovered on foot. Finally, pack a hat and thick socks if you plan to stay out late to admire the illuminations.
đ Visit the Christmas markets
Christmas markets offer a warm atmosphere ideal for sipping mulled wine, buying handcrafted decorations or sampling local specialties. For example, take a stroll around the Tuileries market, the La DĂ©fense market or in front of the HĂŽtel de Ville. What’s more, take advantage of the stalls to pick up some original gifts.
đ Reopening of Notre-Dame
Good news: Notre-Dame officially reopens its doors on December 7 and 8. If you want to find out more, check out our dedicated page on the reopening of Notre-Dame. It’s a historic moment that I highly recommend including in your itinerary.
âïž Admire the illuminations
Paris literally sparkles during the festive season. Don’t miss the illuminations on the Champs-ElysĂ©es, Place VendĂŽme and the magical window displays at Galeries Lafayette. What’s more, take a stroll through the neighborhoods to discover more intimate and surprising decorations.
âžïž Fairy skating
Gliding across the ice with the Eiffel Tower in the background is a magical experience. The TrocadĂ©ro ice rink and the one in front of the HĂŽtel de Ville attract families and couples alike. Don’t forget to check the opening times and reserve your place if necessary. For even more winter activities, check out the special Christmas offers on GetYourGuide.
đ„ Book meals in advance
Restaurants sell out fast, especially on Christmas Eve and December 25. So book early to avoid disappointment. If you want a dinner with a view, check out our suggestions on Christmas restaurants.
đ» Christmas concerts
Finally, for a more intimate and cultural evening, attend a Christmas concert in venues such as the Sainte-Chapelle or Saint-Eustache. These concerts create a timeless atmosphere and are perfect for lovers of classical music and carols.
đ Bonus: shop windows and luxury boutiques
If you’re passing through Avenue Montaigne, stop in front of the Dior boutique – its Christmas decorations often cause a sensation. What’s more, the luxury brands feature visual animations that are well worth the detour.
đ My personal experience
Last year, I arrived in Paris at the beginning of December. First, I walked from the Tuileries to the Opera, stopping for a hot chocolate and some shopping at a Christmas market. Then I attended a concert at the Sainte-Chapelle: the acoustics and lighting gave me the chills. Finally, I ended the evening on the TrocadĂ©ro ice rink – skating with the Eiffel Tower illuminated remains one of my best travel memories. This experience taught me that it’s best to book restaurants and check activity times in advance.
