Snow in Paris
The Champs de Mars under the snow in Paris

Paris under the snow is a magical sight that transforms the capital into a postcard setting. But where can you go to take full advantage of this magical atmosphere? Here are the best places to admire the snow in Paris, with all the practical information you need: ideal period, frequency of snowfall, quantities, timetables, prices and good deals.

📅 When can you see snow in Paris?

Unlike other major European capitals, Paris rarely sees snow. On average, the capital sees 12 days of snow a year, mainly between December and March. However, snow that sticks to the ground is even rarer: in general, there are only 2 to 4 days a year when the white blanket actually covers the city.

The heaviest snowfalls often occur in January or February, with depths varying from 1 to 10 cm depending on the year. Because of our temperate oceanic climate, snow melts quickly, especially in the most urbanized areas. So you need to be quick on your feet to make the most of it!

🛷 My experience of snow in Paris

Seeing Paris under the snow is a unique moment that I’ve been lucky enough to experience several times. One of the most beautiful experiences was on a February morning when the snow completely covered the banks of the Seine. I was on the Île de la Cité, and everything was silent, as if the city had stopped to admire the spectacle.

I then climbed up to Montmartre, and the atmosphere was enchanting: the streets were almost deserted, the Place du Tertre seemed frozen in time, and a thin layer of snow covered the roofs of Paris. The few brave souls outside were taking photos or having snowball fights in front of the Sacré-Coeur. At that moment, I really had the impression of seeing Paris as if in a winter dream.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Paris on a snowy day, get out immediately and make the most of it, because it never lasts long!
